Why did you choose to attend UE?

I decided to attend UE because of its amazing Theatre program. I saw how the faculty and staff truly care for their students and continue to see how much they are invested in our artistic careers. I also wanted to experience college out of state and learn all the fun ways to explore Evansville, Indiana!

What activities or organizations have you been involved with at UE? How have these impacted your college career?

I have been involved in Student Christian Fellowship, International Club, and Black Student Union. I have participated in events such as volunteering for Martin Luther King Jr. Day and performing at Jampon, a fundraiser for the Evansville YWCA. Being in these organizations and activities shows me the importance of generosity. It also reminds me of the importance of using your voice to be the change you want to see in the world. It shows me the power of togetherness and being able to connect to others which forms long-lasting bonds that I will cherish with me even after I graduate.

How has your program shaped and prepared you for a future career?

My program is shaping me to become better at what I do every day. We take so many classes that sharpen our skills. I have taken makeup, costume, scenic, and lighting classes since being in this program. There were tasks that I didn't know how to do before coming here, but I have learned. Being a Performance major is so fun because our faculty and staff really prepare us to handle any obstacle thrown our way. There is so much work that goes into what we do before we even step on a stage. My work ethic has grown because of this program. What's even better is that I get to do it with my peers around me. I am forming so many great bonds with them and learning how to navigate this amazing community that we have built.

How has UE been affordable for you?

UE has been so generous and continues to be when it comes to scholarship opportunities and financial aid. Financial aid was a major factor in deciding what college I wanted to attend, and UE was there every step of the way. I am so grateful that I am able to get an education in an affordable way because of the faculty and staff that took the time to help me.

Why do you recommend UE? What advice would you share with incoming students?

I recommend UE because of the community that you will instantly feel part of. When I first got here, I kept wondering to myself "Why is everyone so nice?" but that is truly how it is. Everyone here is respectful and kind to you, which helps make the experience so much better. My advice that I would share with incoming students is: Don't be afraid to get involved! In any way, you can try to connect to others and make a positive impact in your community or major. It will also be very easy to make friends as long as you stay authentic to who you are. College can seem scary but trust yourself to know that you will get the hang of it, no matter how long it takes.
